Highlights

Yesterday, firefighters conducted burnout operations using aerial ignitions in the Runnels area to strengthen the fireline. A hotshot crew and a team of rappelling firefighters worked on the southeastern side to construct handlines, preventing the fire's advancement. Aerial resources were actively cooling hotspots near the fire’s edge and reinforcing the firelines established by ground crews.

Efforts to protect structures continue, with crews improving existing protection measures. They are leveraging natural and man-made features like trail systems, old roads, and rock formations to create handlines. Tools such as bulldozers, masticators, and aerial resources are being utilized to establish control lines. Firefighters are also ensuring that previously heated parts of the fireline are fully extinguished and cool to the touch.

The environmental challenges faced by the firefighters include difficult access to certain areas, steep terrain, high temperatures, and variable wind directions.

Weather

Expect stronger winds along with dry and hot temperatures throughout the day, which may impact firefighting efforts.
