Flash Flood Warning in Effect: Urgent Evacuation Advisory
A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect for the Ruidoso area until 8:30 PM tonight. Residents are urged to take immediate action to ensure their safety, as this situation poses a significant risk to life and property.
Evacuation Advisory:
Location: Flooding is currently affecting Rio Ruidoso and other areas throughout town.
Action Required: Residents in close proximity to the river or in low-lying areas prone to flooding are advised to evacuate immediately to higher ground. This includes areas anywhere through town near the river.
Remember: Never drive on flooded roads - almost half of all flood-related deaths happen in vehicles. Find an alternate route.
Evacuation Shelter:
An evacuation shelter has been established at the White Mountain Relief Center, located at the White Mountain Sports Complex, 687 Hull Road. This shelter provides a safe haven for those displaced by the flooding.
Current road closures include:
Gavilan Canyon from Sutton to Meander
Paradise Canyon from Country Club to Phillips Circle
Hull Road from Royal to Paradise Canyon
It is crucial to avoid the Upper Canyon. It is very hazardous currently due to the recent fires and flooding. Crews are working diligently to clear debris.
Protect your property:
Sand bags are available for Village of Ruidoso residents at Fire Station 2 located at 606 White Mountain Drive. Please make sure that you protect your property from dangerous flood waters as more rain is expected over the next several days.
