Mayor Lynn D. Crawford Unveils the 2025 State of the Village Address

January 27, 2025, RUIDOSO, NM – Mayor Lynn D. Crawford has released the 2025 State of the Village address, delivering an inspiring message of resilience and optimism for Ruidoso in the wake of last summer’s wildfires and floods. The address highlights the progress made in recovery, financial stability, and community development while emphasizing a commitment to rebuilding an even stronger and more vibrant village.

Key Highlights from the Address:

1. Community Resilience: Mayor Crawford commended the collective efforts of residents, volunteers, and local businesses, who demonstrated remarkable unity and compassion during the crises. “Through dark times, the true spirit of Ruidoso has shone brighter than ever,” she said.

2. Financial Outlook: The Village enters FY 2025 in a strong financial position, boasting a $53 million cash balance and over $112 million in projected revenues. State and federal grants support key projects, including water infrastructure improvements and disaster recovery efforts.

3. Recovery and Infrastructure:

  • FEMA-supported projects, such as sewer line restoration and bridge replacements, are underway.

  • Capital projects totaling $11 million focus on long-term recovery, with an eye toward economic stimulation and sustainability.

4. Economic and Tourism Growth: Despite challenges from reduced gross receipts and lodgers’ tax revenues, the Village remains steadfast in promoting tourism recovery through targeted marketing campaigns and immersive experiences.

5. Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness: New outdoor warning sirens, enhanced emergency response plans, and training initiatives aim to protect the community from future natural disasters.

6. Community Development: Ruidoso’s second workforce housing development is progressing, and revised short-term rental regulations will balance community character with tourism needs.

7. Accomplishments:

• Opening of the Wingfield Heritage House Museum, which drew hundreds of attendees.

• New trails, recreational facilities, and youth programs foster community engagement.

• Recognition of local heroes through the Real Ruidoso. Ruidoso Real campaign.
