Village Emergency Assistance Registry (VEAR): Enroll Today to Ensure Your Safety During Emergencies

In times of crisis, preparedness is key to ensuring the safety and well-being of every member of our community. The Village of Ruidoso proudly offers the Village Emergency Assistance Registry (VEAR), a vital service designed to support individuals with specific needs during emergencies.

What is VEAR? VEAR is a free service provided by local emergency planners and responders. Its primary goal is to gather essential information about community members who may require assistance during emergencies or disasters. This information is crucial for emergency responders to effectively plan and allocate resources.

Benefits of Registering: Registering with VEAR enables emergency responders to:

  • Quickly locate and assist individuals with disabilities, limited mobility, or medical fragility.

  • Understand specific needs such as medical assistance, transportation, or personal care during emergencies.

  • Plot registered individuals on a community map using the ArcGIS platform, facilitating targeted response efforts.

Message from Eric Queller, Emergency Manager:

"We can best support those who are vulnerable if we know where you are and what resources you may need during an emergency or disaster," emphasized Eric Queller, the Emergency Manager of the Village of Ruidoso.

Who Should Register?

VEAR is specifically designed for:

  • People with disabilities

  • Individuals who are medically fragile

  • Those with access and functional needs, including:

    • Limited mobility

    • Communication barriers

    • Requirement for additional medical assistance

    • Assistance with transportation or personal care
