Construction Notice: N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) Improvement Project

Ruidoso, New Mexico – April 5, 2024—The Village of Ruidoso announces an upcoming construction project on N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) beginning Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The project, conducted by Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (MSCI) in collaboration with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), will span from Mile Post 0 to Mile Post 3.3 and is anticipated to last between 4 to 6 weeks, depending on weather conditions.

This construction will involve mill and fill operations aimed at enhancing road quality and safety. Business access along N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) will remain unaffected throughout the project's duration. However, drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly and anticipate minor delays due to temporary lane closures.

Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (MSCI) will commence equipment setup on Monday, April 8, 2024, in preparation for milling operations starting on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Crews have already begun installing construction signage and reduced speed limit indicators along the designated route from Mile Post 0 at the Y to Mile Post 3.3 at the Sudderth/Mechem intersection.

The construction schedule will observe work hours from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. There will be no construction activities on weekends to minimize disruption to local businesses and residents.

Of note, speed humps in Midtown will undergo replacement with a new design as part of this project. The existing speed humps will be milled out and rebuilt, enhancing safety and traffic flow in this area.

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the community during this essential road improvement project. Safety is paramount, and we urge all motorists to exercise caution while navigating through the construction zone.
