Presidential Declaration Issued for South Fork and Salt Fires

In response to the escalating South Fork Fire and Salt Fire, President Joe Biden has approved Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration for New Mexico. This significant step will unlock federal resources crucial for aiding recovery efforts in the affected areas.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham had earlier declared a state of emergency for Lincoln County and the Mescalero Apache Reservation, effective June 18, 2024. This declaration underscores the severity of the situation and allows for coordinated state and federal assistance to address the ongoing wildfire threats.
