Ruidoso Community Center Transforms into Warming Center In Response to Winter Weather Event

PSA

As winter tightens its grip on the Village of Ruidoso, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, forecasting dangerous wind chills and significant snow accumulation. Anticipating the impact on our community, the Village of Ruidoso is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.

Warming Center Activation:

In response to the impending Winter Weather Event, the Ruidoso Community Center, situated at 501 Sudderth Drive, will serve as an overnight Warming Center. Opening from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on January 7, 8, and 9, 2024, the facility will provide cots, blankets, and water to residents seeking refuge from the severe weather conditions. Please note that meals are not provided.

Pet Assistance:

Recognizing the importance of pet safety, the Village of Ruidoso offers support to residents with pets. While the Warming Center does not accommodate pets (with the exception of service animals), the Village will facilitate the transfer of pets to the Humane Society of Lincoln County in Ruidoso.

Elderly Care Initiative:

As part of our community outreach, residents are urged to check on elderly friends and neighbors, ensuring they have the necessary resources to stay warm and secure during the Winter Weather Event.

Preparedness Tips:

To assist residents in preparing for the upcoming weather challenges, the Village of Ruidoso recommends the following precautions:

  • Insulate against the cold by safeguarding exposed pipes.

  • Prepare for freezing temperatures by draining hoses and covering outdoor faucets.

  • Familiarize yourself with utility shut-off locations for gas, water, and electricity.

  • Ensure the safety of pets by bringing them indoors during severe weather conditions.

The Village of Ruidoso emphasizes the importance of community solidarity during this Winter Weather Event. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay connected.
