Village of Ruidoso steering committee seeks public input on Moon Mountain Recreation Area plan
Ruidoso residents are asked to provide feedback on a long-range Moon Mountain outdoor recreation plan. The public can share their input via an online survey (in English or Spanish) and virtual attendance via Zoom at the next Steering Committee meeting at 4 PM on April 6, 2022. 2022 New Mexico Film Office/ Stowe Story Labs Screenwriting Program
The New Mexico Film Office and Stowe Story Labs are presenting a 3-part writing program for 10 New Mexicans interested in developing a feature film or TV script. Participants will be selected through a competitive application process. The application deadline is April 6. Learn more >>
BLM plans prescribed burn activities in Chaves and Lincoln counties
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will conduct prescribed fire operations beginning this week and lasting through May. The agency plans to burn approximately 1,400 acres throughout Chaves and eastern Lincoln counties (weather dependent) and will take several days to complete. Smoke from the burn may be visible from nearby communities.
Server and Network Maintenance: March 25 - 28, 2022
The Village of Ruidoso will perform system maintenance to servers and network equipment as part of the Village Hall construction project beginning at 1 PM Friday, March 25, 2022, and ending on the morning of Monday, March 28, 2022, Mountain Time Zone. The following services will be affected during the dates and times above as follows.
Water leak detection work throughout the village
Wachs Water Services will be doing leak detection work on Grindstone Canyon Road, First and Second Streets, and Meander Drive. Please look for signs indicating work area and approach with caution at a very slow speed.
16 Springs Prescribe Fire on the Sacramento Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest Scheduled for Spring 2022
Fire officials on the Sacramento Ranger District in Cloudcroft, NM, plan to implement prescribed fire operations on the 16 Springs Prescribed Fire project beginning in March and carrying into April of 2022. The 16 Springs Prescribed Fire is targeting 564 acres and is located on federal land five miles north of Mayhill, NM. The project lies within the Dry Burnt Canyon.
PNM contracts for helicopter flights to inspect infrastructure for wildfire mitigation
PNM is telling residents not to be alarmed if they see a helicopter flying low over powerlines in their neighborhood. It’s part of the company's aerial inspection program to mitigate wildfire risk. Ruidoso residents may see the helicopter flying low beginning March 21, 2022. Flights will be carried out between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Traffic Control Notice: March 21 - April 27, 2022
Village residents can expect work to continue on the Ruidoso Sewer Project Beginning on March 21, 2022, crews from SAK Construction will be performing maintenance on sewer lines within the area of Fern Trail in the Village of Ruidoso. The work will continue through April 27, 2022. This construction is weather dependent and therefore subject to change.
Broadband Expansion Survey
The Village of Ruidoso is coordinating a broadband expansion project. We are asking all residents to help with the planning process by participating in a brief survey. Please take the survey from your Ruidoso home or business. A short internet speed test will be done and your local address will be entered, no other personal information will be gathered. Thank you for your cooperation in improving the future of Ruidoso. The survey deadline is Monday, March 28, 2022.

Free at-home COVID-19 test kits in Ruidoso
COVID-19 rapid self-tests are available for the public to pick up in Ruidoso at the following locations and times. If you are sick or exhibiting COVID symptoms, please do NOT come in and get the tests yourself. Please send someone in your place. Each person can pick up two kits.
New Mexico indoor mask mandate lifted
On Thursday, February 17, 2022, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced she had lifted the requirement for face coverings to be worn in most indoor spaces, effective immediately. The indoor mask mandate remains in effect for congregate settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, and detention facilities.
MIDTOWN LIGHT POLE REPLACEMENT PROJECT SET TO BEGIN FEB. 22
The Village of Ruidoso has contracted with APIC Solutions to replace all of the Village-owned wooden streetlight poles in the Midtown District with decorative metal streetlights. The contractor will be mobilizing equipment and materials starting on February 22, 2022. Construction, including the removal and replacement of poles, will start on February 28. The project is expected to take approximately six weeks and will be completed by the end of March.
CENTER STREET RENOVATION PROJECT TO BEGIN IN MID-FEBRUARY
The Village of Ruidoso and the Ruidoso Midtown Association are preparing to kick-off the Center Street renovation project. The project includes the renovation of Center Street from Sudderth Drive south to the intersection of Center Street and Wingfield Street. It will include new curbs and gutters, new sidewalks on both sides of the road and a slightly enlarged public parking lot behind Timbers Mall.
Prescribed Burns Scheduled on the Lincoln National Forest, Smokey Bear Ranger District
The Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest is planning to conduct prescribed burns in the Grindstone and Perk Canyon areas west of Ruidoso as early as Tuesday, February 8. Prescribed burning will continue throughout winter and spring as conditions allow. Crews will begin by targeting areas in Indian Canyon and will expand further into the units over the coming months. The prescribed burns will include broadcast burning and pile burning, depending on the location.
Street Closing for Snow Removal
Village of Ruidoso road crews will be removing snow from the middle of Sudderth beginning at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 3, 2022. In order to complete this in the most efficient manner, they will be closing Sudderth to thru-traffic from Paradise Canyon to Mechem from 5:00 PM until the snow removal is complete. If you live in that stretch of roadway, YOU WILL BE ALLOWED to access Sudderth to reach your home. There will be detours from Cree Meadows to Paradise Canyon and from Paradise Canyon to Mechem.
Village of Ruidoso Announces Well Drilling and Plugging
NM Environmental Department contractors will be plugging and abandoning 17 monitoring wells and drilling 3 new monitoring wells in and around Reese Drive from the Sudderth Drive intersection to the Horton Complex. Work is to begin on Monday, January 31, 2022, through February 11, 2022. Watch for drilling crews working. Approach with caution
