RX burns scheduled on Sacramento Ranger District
Burns are part of the overall forest management strategy for Lincoln National Forest.
Prescribed burns on the Sacramento Ranger District are tentatively scheduled to take place Wednesday, July 12, through Saturday, July 15. These burns are part of an ongoing schedule to clear fuels and mitigate wildfire risks.
The prescribed burns will be located in the Weed area, at various burn pile sites. The burns are planned to cover a total of 53 acres. Lincoln National Forest Fire Staff Officer Dave Bales emphasized that the conditions in the area will closely monitored in the days leading up, during, and following the prescribed burn.
“Recent moisture in the Sacramento District as well as favorable weather patterns and conditions have given a good opportunity to go forward with our ongoing prescribed burn project on the Lincoln National Forest,” Bales said.
Ultimately, Bales said that the removal and clearing of flammable fuels in a closely watched and staged setting will allow the Forest Service to continue to mitigate wildfire risk and create a healthier forest environment.
“We want to take advantage of favorable weather opportunities and conditions to move forward with our overall plan to clear debris and fuels from the Forest and further mitigate the threat of a wildfire,” he said.
Residents and visitors in the vicinity of the burn can expect smoky conditions during and in the days following the event. Crews will be on the scene during and after the prescribed burn to monitor conditions and mitigate the threat of any spread.
