Blue 2 Wildfire Afternoon Update – May 26, 2024
Current Operations
Hotshot crews are actively engaged in controlled burns to manage the fire's spread. Using drip torches, they are carefully removing fuels south of the 107 D road, just west of Dark Betsy Canyon, to bring the active fire edge down to the road in a controlled manner. Similar tactics are being used on the south side of the Soldier Mountain spot fire, where crews are igniting controlled burns to bring the main fire perimeter to the road.
Aviation and Ground Support
On the east side of the Soldier Mountain spot fire, aviation resources have been crucial in reinforcing the retardant line. Three Type 1 helicopters are dropping water on the northeast side to keep the fire in check. Heavy equipment, including bulldozers, is working to connect the dozer line around Loma Grande.
South Side Efforts
Along the 127A road on the south side of the fire, hotshot crews are busy building handlines and preparing cabins and other structures by removing surrounding fuels. This proactive approach is aimed at protecting these structures from potential fire encroachment.
West Side Monitoring
There was minimal fire activity observed on the west side of the fire today. Little fire movement was noted, and this area was scouted by air to evaluate suppression options and ensure readiness for any changes in fire behavior.
