Ball Field Fire Evening Update – June 8, 2021
The Ball Field Fire started at 11:30 a.m on Tuesday, June 8 off of Ski Run Road and Highway 48 above the ball fields in the Village of Ruidoso. The fire is currently 25% contained and has burned 25 acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews have a line around the entire perimeter of the fire and have been fighting the fire from the ground and from the air with water and slurry. Highway 48 has reopened at this time. All county and volunteer crews have been released from the scene. Crews from the Ruidoso Fire Department will remain on-scene throughout the night. The fire is currently 25% contained and is estimated to be at 25 acres. No cause has been determined, and the fire is still under investigation. Highway 48 has reopened in both directions. We’d ask the public to continue to avoid the area of Alto Lake and Ski Run Road as this is still an active fire.
As efforts continue to contain the Ball Field Fire, we have moved to a unified command between RFD IC, Forest Service IC, and Lincoln County IC. Those three entities are working together to combine resources and strategize air attacks on the blaze. A small spot fire jumped HWY 48 but was immediately put out.
We will continue to provide updates and tune into 1490 AM KRUI - The Mountain for the latest.
