Blue 2 Wildfire Afternoon Update - May 28, 2024

The Blue 2 Wildfire remains active. Weather conditions are hot and dry. Here are the latest developments based on the afternoon update from the Blue 2 Fire Facebook page:

Northwest Side Operations

Hotshots are actively igniting fuels by hand near Bonito Creek Campground to safely guide the fire down to the road. They have also set up sprinklers at the intersection of Tanbark Canyon Rd. and 107 Road to protect the area. On Soldier Mountain, hotshots are working directly at the fire’s edge, removing fuels and heat, constructing new lines, and reinforcing existing ones.

West of Loma Grande

A dozer line along the Forest Service boundary is almost connected to the 131 road. Crews are also preparing for additional dozer lines along the Forest Service boundary in Sun Valley by removing fuels. In Villa Madonna, more sprinklers and hoses have been set up, and aircraft have dropped additional retardant north of Eagle Creek Summer Homes along the fire’s edge.

Southwest Side Operations

Crews are constructing fire lines from Buck Mountain down toward the Crest Trail, using heavy equipment to remove fuels and debris.

The fire's activity is producing significant smoke due to the prevailing hot and dry conditions.
