Otero County Slash Pit Burn Scheduled on Monday, January 10, 2022

The Otero County Slash Pit located northeast of Cloudcroft, NM on Highway 244 is scheduled to be burned on Monday, January 10, 2022. Smoke will be visible from Cloudcroft and along nearby roadways including Hwy 244 and Hwy 82. Please use extra caution when driving in smoky conditions.

The Slash Pit provides a place for residents to take their excess vegetative material (aka slash). The Slash Pit is managed jointly by Otero County who provides scheduled days for drop-offs, and the Forest Service who periodically burns the slash when material has accumulated.

Guidelines for the Slash Pit are as follows:

  • No large lumber or trash is permitted.

  • The Slash Pit is for residential use only.

  • Contractors are required to take their slash elsewhere.

  • Residents are also allowed to remove wood or wood chips from the Slash Pit on scheduled open days.

The Slash Pit is usually open every other weekend. For schedule, information contact Bill Farmer 575-491-2821. If you have other questions about the Slash Pit you may contact Otero County at 575-439-2612.
