Lincoln National Forest Closure Announcement
In response to the ongoing Blue 2 wildfire, the U.S. Forest Service has issued an area closure order for all National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within and around the White Mountain Wilderness, from NFSR 107 and Big Bonito Trail #36, to Aspen Trail #35, Crest Trail #25, Rodamaker Trail #20, and back to NFSR 107. This closure is essential to protect firefighter personnel and the public, as suppression tactics actively manage the wildfire.
Get your Christmas tree-cutting permit for Lincoln National Forest
If you’re feeling ambitious and want to cut your own Christmas tree, Lincoln National Forest will begin selling Christmas tree permits on November 14, 2023. The cost is $10 each plus a $2.50 processing fee with a limited number of permits available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of one permit per household. Sacramento Ranger District to Conduct Prescribed Burn in 16 Springs
The Sacramento Ranger District plans to begin prescribed burning in the 16 Springs area approximately 5 miles north of Mayhill, NM beginning the first week in November and continuing throughout the fall and winter as conditions allow. Smoke from the prescribed burn is expected to travel northeast towards Roswell but may impact nearby homes.

Caring for the land and serving the people is the goal for each Forest Service unit. Both require dedicated employees, but even more importantly these days, partnerships.
Smokey Bear Ranger District To Continue Prescribed Burns
Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest hopes to take advantage of recent monsoonal rains and greening patterns to burn piles using prescribed fire in the Gavilan area beginning the first week in September and throughout the fall, as conditions allow.
Pile Burning Planned for Sacramento Ranger District
The Sacramento Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest will be burning a combination of hand and slash piles in November and December when conditions and weather are favorable.
