What is a Red Flag Warning?

A Warning issued by National Weather Service fire weather forecasters to alert the public, firefighters, and land management agencies that conditions are ideal for wildland fire combustion and rapid spread.

A Red Flag Warnings mean the weather is hot, dry, and windy.  Any fire that starts under those conditions has the potential to spread quickly and easily overwhelm firefighting resources.

On Red Flag days, we will display our Red Flag at our three Fire Stations in the Village of Ruidoso. When these flags are displayed, please be cautious and aware.

WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING A RED FLAG WARNING?

Be prepared, and avoid activities that could spark a wildfire.
