Ruidoso's Sierra Blanca Regional Airport is a fully certified as a FAR 139 by the Federal Aviation Administration. Operators of Part 139 airports must provide aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) services during air carrier operations that require a Part 139 certificate.
FAA 14 CFR Part 139 establishes levels (or indexes) of fire fighting protection for certified commercial service airports. SRR is an Index A airport based on the fact that it was served by commercial service aircraft with a wingspan of less than 90 feet. SRR maintains two ARFF vehicles on site and the staff is ARFF and EMR certified to respond to all types of emergencies at the airport. There is a dedicated ARFF building to house the equipment and provide space for the maintenance of the equipment that is within the capability of the SRR staff.
The airport maintains and operates snow removal equipment. It is currently stored in a 2,100 square foot, 4 bay, maintenance equipment building. The airport does not own or operate de-icing equipment.
