Smokey Bear Hotshots and Ruidoso Community Team Up to Protect Against Flooding
In a remarkable show of community spirit and proactive disaster response, the Smokey Bear Hotshots from Lincoln National Forest joined forces with local residents on Sunday, June 30, 2024, to fill 1,000 sandbags. This collaborative effort aims to safeguard homes and businesses amidst the ongoing threat of flooding exacerbated by recent storms over the South Fork and Salt Fires area.
Led by the Southwest Incident Management Team 5, the initiative saw dedicated efforts from trained professionals and community volunteers. The sandbags, vital in fortifying against floodwaters, were filled with efficiency and care, reflecting a unified commitment to protecting our cherished community.
As the region braces for potential further storms, this ongoing partnership underscores the resilience and proactive measures being taken to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all residents. The Village of Ruidoso extends its deepest gratitude to all involved in this crucial endeavor.
