Lincoln National Forest Closure Announcement

In response to the ongoing Blue 2 wildfire, the U.S. Forest Service has issued an area closure order for the Smokey Bear Ranger District in Lincoln National Forest. This closure is essential to protect firefighter personnel and the public, as suppression tactics actively manage the wildfire.

Closure Details

Order Number: # 03-08-01-24-001
Effective Dates: May 23, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. through August 23, 2024, at 12:01 p.m.

The closure encompasses all National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within and around the White Mountain Wilderness. This includes areas from the junction of National Forest Service Road (NFSR) 107 and Big Bonito Trail #36, to the junction of Aspen Trail #35, to the junction of Crest Trail #25, along Rodamaker Trail #20, and back to NFSR 107.

Prohibited Activities

Entering or being within the described area is strictly prohibited to ensure public health and safety under 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e). Violating this closure can result in fines of up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations or imprisonment for up to six months.

Exemptions

Exemptions are granted to:

  • Persons with specific Forest Service permits.

  • Federal, State, or Local officers or members of organized rescue or firefighting resources in the performance of official duties.
