Lincoln National Forest moves to ‘low’ fire danger rating

August 29, 2024 – Effective immediately, The Lincoln National Forest has reduced the fire danger rating to ‘low’ on all three districts.

The reduction in fire danger rating and lifting of fire restrictions has come after analysis and indicators of moisture levels in the area, along with extended weather forecasts for the area and region.

Some emergency area closures do remain in place on the Smokey Bear Ranger District in the aftermath of the South Fork Fire. For the most current closure information, please visit our website’s alerts page: Lincoln National Forest - Alerts & Closures (usda.gov).

As we approach Labor Day weekend, it is important to observe good safety practices if you are camping or recreating on the Lincoln National Forest. Ensure your campfires are completely dead-out prior to leaving, and cool to the touch to ensure they do not reignite.

Be mindful of weather conditions, as flash flood conditions can occur quickly in areas surrounding recent wildfire burn scars. As always, please observe our Leave No Trace policy, and pack out any trash or litter.

All offices on the Lincoln National Forest will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of Labor Day. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3.
