VOR Lifts Wastewater Advisory

The Village of Ruidoso has officially lifted the wastewater release advisory for the Rio Ruidoso. The advisory was lifted after samples taken for five consecutive days tested well below allowable levels for the Rio Ruidoso.

“The Village of Ruidoso Wastewater Department took samples each day from the spill site as well as upstream and downstream and ran comprehensive tests to help ensure public safety,” said Village Manager Tim Dodge. “We are confident that there is no danger to public health or safety at this time.”

The original advisory was issued last week as a precautionary measure after approximately 500 gallons of raw sewage overflowed into the Rio Ruidoso when a contractor on the sewer line rehabilitation project was sanitizing manholes.

The New Mexico Environment Department provided technical assistance to the water system and the Village of Ruidoso throughout the event.
