Geotechnical Work to Begin on FEMA Bridge Replacements
RUIDOSO, NM – January 19, 2022 - In a continued effort for the engineering design of the six FEMA Bridge Replacement projects, the Village of Ruidoso is notifying the public of upcoming geotechnical engineering work that is going to take place near each of the bridges. The below site maps shows the location of each bridge along with the work that will take place.
Geophysical/Seismic Testing: These services will be used to provide estimates of the depth to rock at select locations. This is done by running one perpendicular line on each side of the bridge. Data will be obtained by striking a metal plate on the ground and recording the travel times of waves. Anticipated dates for this work:
· Wednesday, January 26th – Robin Road Bridge & River Trail Bridge
· Thursday, January 27th – Main Road Bridge & North Loop Bridge
· Friday, January 28th – Sleepy Hollow Bridge & McDaniel Bridge
Geotechnical Field Exploration: Drilling and sampling of 12 exploratory soil borings (two soil borings within or near each of the six proposed bridge reconstruction areas).
Anticipated dates for this work:
· Monday, January 31st – Robin Road Bridge & River Trail Bridge (RTB-03)
· Tuesday, February 1st – River Trail Bridge (RTB-04) & Main Road Bridge
· Wednesday, February 2nd – North Loop Bridge
· Thursday, February 3rd – McDaniel Bridge
· Friday, February 4th – Sleepy Hollow Bridge
The drilling schedule may be subject to change, and it all depends on the drilling conditions when the crew is performing the field work.
Crews performing this work will be in marked vehicles and will be wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all stages of the work. There will be traffic control set up at each location to notify the public of the work ahead. The anticipated traffic control will consist of lane closures, shoulder work ahead, possible road closures, and detours. There will be signage, barrels, cones, flagman, etc. that will help to identify the changes to traffic patterns in the affected areas.
