Construction Notice: N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) Improvement Project

Beginning April 9, 2024, Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (MSCI) will start a road improvement project on N.M. 48 (Sudderth/Mechem) in Ruidoso lasting 4-6 weeks (weather permitting). The project spans from Mile Post 0 to 3.3, with mill and fill operations aiming to enhance road quality and safety. Business access remains unaffected, but drivers should expect minor delays due to lane closures. Work hours are 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with no weekend construction.

Village of Ruidoso Releases Winter Storm Plan for 2022-2023

Ruidoso, NM - November 10, 2022. In preparation for the winter season, the Village of Ruidoso releases its Winter Plan 2022-2023 as a framework for the Village’s readiness and response to winter storms and its plans to keep Ruidoso moving safely.

Included are Village plans to:

  • Keep roads, sidewalks, walking paths, and trails open, clear, and safe.

  • Ensure the continuance of essential services following major inclement weather situations by clearing accumulated snowfall.

  • Provide a uniform plan, or level of service, to be followed during emergency snow and ice storms.

Notice of Construction: Ruidoso Sewer Project Hazard Mitigation Work October 3, 2022 through December 20, 2022

Heavy Civil Construction company, AUI Inc. will begin construction on the Hazard Mitigation project in the Location 8A area on October 3, 2022. This work includes reconstructing the existing 8” sanitary sewer line from 121 Singing Pine Rd to 113 Singing Pine Rd. As part of the sewer line replacement and protection, AUI will construct a floodwall along the length and encase the new sewer line in concrete. As part of the reconstruction, the existing concrete encased manhole near 121 Singing Pine Rd. will be removed and replaced. Construction at this location is expected to take a bit over eleven (11) weeks to be performed and is anticipated to run from October 3, 2022, to December 20, 2022.

Surface Maintenance Repair Work on Mechem Drive to Begin on August 22, 2022

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Two is performing maintenance surface repair work on Mechem Drive (N.M. 48) in Ruidoso. Weather permitting, the maintenance project is expected to take two months to complete. The $3.7 million resurfacing work is expected to begin on August 22 with one-lane closures and short delays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Paradise Canyon Paving Project

The paving project through Paradise Canyon is set to begin on August 4, 2022, as the contractor begins mobilizing and staging their equipment. Work will take place Monday-Thursday until the project is completed. There will be no paving taking place during the evenings, on Fridays, or on the weekends. There will be pilot cars that will assist motorists through the construction zone, or you can seek an alternate route. If you are traveling through the area, please use slow speeds and be aware of the crews that are working.

Gavilan Canyon Road Construction Project

The Ruidoso Street Department and the County of Lincoln will be doing road construction near the 500 block of Gavilan Canyon Road from May 23 to June 2, 2022. The construction is to add drainage improvements in an effort to mitigate the increased water flows expected during the upcoming monsoon season caused by the recent wildfire. Construction will be ongoing through June 2, 2022. There will be closures and delays. Please seek alternative routes.

Street Closure: Hull Road at the Cedar Creek May 2 - 6, 2022

The Village will be replacing guardrails on both sides of Hull Road at the Cedar Creek crossing. Hull Road will be closed in both directions from Paradise Canyon Drive to Royal Drive from May 2-6, 2022. Resident access on Hull Road south of Royal Drive will only be available from the north. Street Closing for Snow Removal

Village of Ruidoso road crews will be removing snow from the middle of Sudderth beginning at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 3, 2022. In order to complete this in the most efficient manner, they will be closing Sudderth to thru-traffic from Paradise Canyon to Mechem from 5:00 PM until the snow removal is complete. If you live in that stretch of roadway, YOU WILL BE ALLOWED to access Sudderth to reach your home. There will be detours from Cree Meadows to Paradise Canyon and from Paradise Canyon to Mechem.

A provisional Midtown street transformation initiative in response to COVID-19

Six months into the COVID-19 pandemic the situation continues to evolve. As a result, our community must find safe, healthy ways to adapt in realtime. One small-scale, quick, and affordable tool to help mitigate the health, social, and economic impact of the virus is to create safe distancing and increased outdoor public space through reconfigured roadways. To this effect, the Village of Ruidoso has engaged a professional engineering firm to investigate the nonpermanent expansion of public space through a reduction in traffic lanes (from four to three) in Midtown as an adaptive response to COVID-19 emergency public health orders.
