Village of Ruidoso makes recycled asphalt available to assist in mitigating flood damage
On April 12, 2022, the McBride fire ignited and burned for several days, leaving a large swath of burn scar in portions of the Village of Ruidoso. The 2022 monsoon season came to Ruidoso around June 16 and has continued through August, bringing with it record rainfall and significant localized flooding.
Residents and property owners within Ruidoso and the surrounding area have suffered damage from the torrential rainfalls and flooding, and public infrastructure has been damaged as a result of the rain and floods. Weather forecasts indicate that the monsoon season could continue for several more weeks, and public and private property continues to be in peril as a result of continued record rainfall.
The village is currently completing several road re-paving projects throughout the Village, and recycled asphalt is a byproduct of these road re-paving projects. The road re-paving projects have produced a significant surplus in recycled asphalt that the Village is unable to store or use. The recycled asphalt can be put to beneficial use by the residents and property owners of Ruidoso to mitigate the damages caused by the record rainfalls.
Through Executive Order 2022-05, Lynn D. Crawford, Mayor of the Village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, makes available to the public stockpiles of recycled asphalt to assist in the mitigation of the damages caused by recent flooding.
The public may acquire up to one ton of recycled asphalt at no cost from a stockpile at Fire Station Two, located at 606 White Mountain Drive in Ruidoso.
The public may acquire one ton or more of recycled asphalt at a cost of Five Dollars ($5) per ton by contacting Public Works Director, Adam Sanchez, at (575) 257-6023 or by email at adamsanchez@ruidoso-nm.gov.
