Free Turfgrass Irrigation Seminar

Turfgrass irrigation accounts for a large portion of residential water use during the growing season but irrigation is necessary to keep our grass and landscape plants alive over the summer as an annual average of 17” of rain is not sufficient for most plants to survive. Despite the considerable amount of water used for outdoor watering, many turfgrass irrigation systems are inefficient. More than half of the water used may not reach the intended area and is wasted. Since the new irrigation season is about to start, New Mexico State University’s Extension Service will offer workshops on how to determine irrigation requirements and how to irrigate efficiently using information from an irrigation audit. The workshops will be taught by Dr. Bernd Leinauer, NMSU’s Turfgrass Extension specialist.

The first workshop is entitled ‘Turfgrass Irrigation Seminar’ and will cover the basics of general turfgrass irrigation. It will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, at The Village of Ruidoso, Council Chambers, 313 Cree Meadows Drive. Participants will learn first-hand all the information needed to determine the amount of water necessary to irrigate a turf area sufficiently during the growing season.

The workshop is offered free of charge but we ask participants to register with the Lincoln County Extension Office 575-648-2311. Lunch will be provided by Helena Chemical for all preregistered participants.

For more information contact Melanie Gutierrez at 575-648-2311 or Bernd Leinauer at leinauer@nmsu.edu.
