The fire has burned 12,000 acres and is currently at 5% containment. There are no reported injuries, and no structures have burned. The Type-1 Incident Management Team took command of the fire at 6 am this morning. .Rain and snow are falling again today, which is lessening fire activity. Up to a ½ inch of rain is expected on a portion of the fire. Precipitation and higher humidity levels around 30 percent will slow the fire, however, winds are still expected to be erratic along the mountain ridges. After more accurate data was assessed, the Three Rivers Fire is estimated at approximately 12,000 acres. This 12,000-acre fire perimeter includes smaller spot fires that have “spotted” ahead of the main fire, however, unburned terrain remains between the main fire and spot fires. An infrared (IR) flight has been requested to fly over the fire tonight. IR flights use infrared technology to pick up heat, which can then be used to map out the fire perimeter and the perimeter of any additional spot fires. The fire is 5% contained. The Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest plans to conduct a prescribed burn near Baca Campground starting Monday, April 12, 2021, as conditions allow.

The Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest will be burning piles tomorrow, Friday, February 19, 2021, on Forest Service land behind the district office near Mechem Dr. and Cedar Creek Dr. Smoke will be visible in Ruidoso. Please use caution when driving in smoky conditions.

Smokey Bear Ranger District Prescribed Fire: Beginning on January 29, 2020, and continuing through winter as conditions allow, fire officials will be pile burning in the Gavilan and Perk areas. Smoke will be visible from Ruidoso and surrounding communities.

Fire managers on the Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest plan to implement the Perk Prescribed Burn starting January 14, 2020, and throughout the rest of winter, conditions permitting.The prescribed burn is located near the Cedar Creek Trail system (aka Trail 92) which is 3-4 miles from Ruidoso. Smoke may be visible from Ruidoso, Alto, Bonito, Ruidoso Downs, Hwy 48, Hwy 37, Hwy 70 and other nearby communities.
