Burned Area Emergency Response Team Assessing Fire Severity On The Blue 2 Fire
A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team, led by Terry Hardy and Edgar Martinez, is assessing the Blue 2 Fire's impact in Ruidoso, NM. The team evaluates post-fire risks like flooding and debris flow, focusing on human safety and natural resources. Crucial Updates for Blue 2 Fire Evacuation Levels - June 2, 2024
Starting at 4:00 PM on June 2, 2024, evacuation levels for the Blue 2 Fire will change. Capitan, Enchanted Forest, and Alto are no longer in “Ready” status. Cora Dutton, Ranchman’s Camp, Sun Valley, and Sierra Vista are now “Ready.” Villa Madonna, Bonito Lake, Loma Grande, and Nogal Canyon are “Set.” All “Go” notices are lifted. Due to the ongoing Blue 2 Fire and predicted high winds and fire danger, the Village of Ruidoso will NOT conduct the regularly scheduled siren test first of the month on Saturday, June 1st. Stay informed via our Blue 2 Fire Information Hub and take necessary precautions.
Approval of Lincoln County Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Plan 2024
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved the five-year update for the Lincoln County Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan through March 19, 2029; Lincoln County, the Village of Ruidoso, the Town of Carrizozo, the Village of Capitan, and the Village of Corona are included in the approval. We anticipate Ruidoso Downs will also be included in the Approval in April. The final version of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is expected to be posted by the end of April for download here.

UPDATE: JANUARY 8, 2024: Thank you to those who provided comments in the summer and fall of 2023. Based on your input, The Planning Team incorporated feedback, collaborated with the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and finalized the document with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Adoption of the plan is scheduled for discussion by the six governing bodies in January 2024. Once FEMA issues a final approval letter, the Hazard Mitigation Plan will be accessible for reference, allowing community members to monitor its implementation progress. Ruidoso Community Center Transforms into Warming Center In Response to Winter Weather Event
Due to a Winter Weather Advisory predicting dangerous conditions, the Village of Ruidoso has activated the Ruidoso Community Center as an overnight Warming Center equipped with essentials like cots and blankets from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on January 7, 8, and 9, 2024, to ensure community safety during the severe weather period. Pet assistance is also available to transfer animals to the Humane Society of Lincoln County. The initiative also urges residents to check on elderly neighbors, insulate against freezing temperatures, and bring pets indoors. The Village of Ruidoso emphasizes the importance of community solidarity during this Winter Weather Event. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay connected.
Village Of Ruidoso To Participate In Nationwide Test Of Emergency Alert System
Ruidoso Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) & the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), will take part in the nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system at approximately 12:20 PM MDT on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
