Three Rivers Fire Update – May 1, 2021
Acres: 6,951. Percent Containment: 13%. Firefighters continue to make progress in their work to contain the Three Rivers Fire that has been active over the past week. Today we will start seeing a warming and drying trend over the fire area. The scattering of the multiple smaller fires inside the perimeter continues to burn. As fuels dry out due to warmer temperatures and increasing winds from the southwest, smoke from the fire may be visible from the west side of the Crest Trail.
Three Rivers Fire Update – April 30, 2021
Acres: 5,557. Percent Containment: 13%. The much-welcomed rain and snow continued to fall Thursday morning and throughout the day, allowing firefighters to formulate a strategic plan of attack on the Three Rivers Fire. A reconnaissance flight, which entails aircraft equipped with infrared (IR) sensing technology can map wildfires, providing firefighters with an accurate assessment of the fire perimeter. Although the precipitation assisted in slowing the fire’s growth, warmer temperatures and winds are expected starting Saturday and over the next several days, potentially rekindling interior portions of the fire. Residents should remain vigilant and prepared for evacuations if fire behavior increases.

Acres: 12,000. Percent Containment: 5%.Structures burned: 0. Fire Update: Crews Continue to Work After Rain Douses Fire Overnight. Widespread scattered precipitation yesterday and last night has kept fire spread minimal. Increased moisture and humidity have slowed spread through grasses; dead and downed fuel is currently smoldering. Fire activity is expected to increase later in the day and wind direction is expected to shift, blowing the fire back onto already burned areas. The fire will become more active again as warmer weather returns Saturday.

Acres: 12,000. Percent Containment: 5%.Structures burned: 0. Fire Update: Cooler Weather Slows Three Rivers Fire Growth. Southwest Type 1 Team 2, led by Incident Commander Dave Bales, assumed management of the fire this morning. Cooler, wetter weather resulted in minimal fire growth today.
Restaurant Revitalization Fund
Registration for the $28.6 Billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) will begin Friday, April 30 at 9 a.m. EDT and SBA will begin accepting applications via the application portal on Monday, May 3 at 12 p.m. EDT. The application portal will remain open to any eligible establishment until all funds are exhausted.
New Mexico to loosen Red-Yellow-Green criteria, sets vaccination goal for removal of restrictions
April 28, 2021: The state has updated its gating criteria - which moves Lincoln County into the TURQUOISE level starting this coming Friday, April 30th. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham says New Mexico will fully reopen when 60% of New Mexicans are fully vaccinated. The Governor predicts New Mexico will reach this milestone by the end of June.

The fire has burned 12,000 acres and is currently at 5% containment. There are no reported injuries, and no structures have burned. The Type-1 Incident Management Team took command of the fire at 6 am this morning. .Rain and snow are falling again today, which is lessening fire activity. Up to a ½ inch of rain is expected on a portion of the fire. Precipitation and higher humidity levels around 30 percent will slow the fire, however, winds are still expected to be erratic along the mountain ridges. Three Rivers Fire Evening Update: April 27, 2021
After more accurate data was assessed, the Three Rivers Fire is estimated at approximately 12,000 acres. This 12,000-acre fire perimeter includes smaller spot fires that have “spotted” ahead of the main fire, however, unburned terrain remains between the main fire and spot fires. An infrared (IR) flight has been requested to fly over the fire tonight. IR flights use infrared technology to pick up heat, which can then be used to map out the fire perimeter and the perimeter of any additional spot fires. The fire is 5% contained. There are no reported injuries, and no structures have burned. Lincoln County Regressed From Turquoise to Yellow Level Restrictions In Latest NMDOH Red-to-Green Update
Ruidoso, New Mexico - April 21, 2021: The New Mexico Department of Health updated the Covid-19 county map today with Lincoln County regressing from low-risk Turquoise level to high-risk Yellow level restrictions in the color-tiered county-by-county COVID-19 risk system.
UPDATE: Ruidoso Police Continue Investigation After Two Bodies Discovered
The Ruidoso Police Department investigation into the deaths of Jarrod and Tristina Simpson is ongoing. An autopsy of each body indicates that they both died of gunshot wounds. Lincoln National Forest in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
The Lincoln National Forest implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions effective Friday, April 16, 2021, due to high fire danger and ongoing drought conditions. The increased fire danger is due to insufficient moisture and dry fuel conditions across the forest.

Fire Managers to Proceed with Prescribed Burn North of Mayhill For Week of April 20 if Conditions Allow
Crews plan to continue with the ongoing 16 Springs Prescribed Burn on the Sacramento Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest starting as early as Tuesday, April 20, 2021, if conditions allow. The 16 Springs Prescribed Burn consists of four areas from Mayhill to Silver Springs. Firefighters will focus on a site about two miles north of Mayhill near Lantham Gap and Burnt Canyon next week.
Ruidoso Police Investigating Potential Homicide
At approximately 2:46 PM on Tuesday, April 13, officers with the Ruidoso Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of La Luz Drive in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, the deceased bodies of 46-year-old Jarrod Simpson and 46-year-old Tristina Simpson were discovered. The investigation is ongoing with a collaborative effort by the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney’s Office Major Crime Unit (MCU).
