Congress has approved $2 billion for the SBA Disaster Loan Program, allowing Ruidoso residents and businesses impacted by disasters like the South Fork and Salt Fires to access low-interest loans. This funding will help over 21,000 applicants nationwide resume recovery efforts. Homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits can apply online at sba.gov/disaster or in person at a Disaster or Business Recovery Center.
The Lincoln National Forest raised its fire danger rating to 'moderate' on December 19, 2024, following assessments of moisture levels and weather forecasts. Moderate fire danger means fires can start from most accidental causes, spreading quickly in dry grasslands on windy days. Visitors are urged to fully extinguish campfires, prepare for winter weather, and prioritize fire safety.
The RSVP program of Ruidoso Community Center and partners is hosting a Winter Coat Drive to support neighbors in need. Donate new or gently used winter items for adults and children, including coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and hoodies. The Smokey Bear Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest plans prescribed pile burns in the Little Eagle Project Area through December 2024 and January 2025, targeting 150 acres near Alto and northwest of Ruidoso. Burns aim to manage forest health and reduce fuel buildup. Smoke may be visible from nearby communities. Dates depend on weather conditions, with updates provided to the public.

The Festival of Lights Parade returns on Saturday, December 7, 2024, starting at 5:30 PM. Road closures on Sudderth Drive, from Paradise Canyon Drive to the Main Road Traffic Circle, begin between 4:45 PM and 5:00 PM and will last until the parade concludes. Celebrate safely and enjoy the festivities! Alternate routes are advised to avoid traffic delays. Barricades and detours will be in place to manage traffic. Plan ahead and enjoy the festivities!
Lincoln National Forest will conduct a prescribed burn on the Sacramento Ranger District from Dec. 3-6, 2024, targeting 350 acres in the 16 Springs Project Area. The operation aims to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health. Smoke may affect nearby areas, including Mayhill and Cloudcroft. Plans are weather-dependent.

The Village of Ruidoso recently sent a required notice about galvanized and unknown water pipes to comply with federal and state regulations. This does not mean the drinking water is unsafe or lead has been detected. Annual testing confirms Ruidoso’s water meets EPA safety standards, with no lead found.
